Selling tickets, as simple as it sounds
Running a village festival is not the same as running a festival. There is no permanent box office, there is no ticketing department, and the people organising it are doing it alongside their day jobs. At the same time real money is involved: a well attended marquee takes more over three evenings than an association makes in a year, and that money has to be in before the tent, the band and the security can be paid.
Advance sales take the risk out of the weekend
The difference between a village festival that works out and one that disappoints is usually advance sales. If you only find out at the door how many people are coming, you have already booked the marquee and the acts without knowing whether it will cover itself. With an online ticket shop you sell weeks ahead, watch it come in on your dashboard, and adjust with an extra night or a smaller tent.
You decide what to offer: a weekend pass, single tickets per night, a reduced rate for under-18s, or a free Sunday afternoon programme that still needs registrations. It all sits in the same shop and your visitor pays for it in one go.
The door has to move quickly
At eight o'clock there is a queue outside the tent, and you do not want to work through it with a printed list. With the scanner app on your volunteers' phones you scan the QR code on each ticket. A ticket that has already been used is refused, so passing wristbands along no longer works.
A marquee rarely stands somewhere with good reception, and the scanner app works both online and offline. You can scan with several phones at different entrances at the same time.
No service fees for the village
